Saint Joseph's holds off Drexel 82-81

PHILADELPHIA (AP) DeAndre Bembry scored 23 points, Aaron Brown added 15 and Saint Joseph's held off a second-half surge by Drexel to win 82-81 in Friday night's season opener for both teams.

Isaiah Miles scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Hawks, who got 12 points, four assists and three blocks from Pierfrancesco Oliva.

Bembry opened with a layup to spark a 15-2 run, but Drexel pulled within 33-28 on a layup by Terrell Allen. Miles scored 7 points amid a 9-0 run and Saint Joseph's led 44-34 at halftime.

Tavon Allen scored 20 points and the Dragons outscored the Hawks 47-38 in the second half.

Terrell Allen scored 18 with four assists, and his layup and 3-pointer pulled Drexel within 82-78 with 18 seconds left. He missed a layup with 4 seconds left and Rashann London's 3-pointer at the buzzer wasn't enough.
