Sacred Heart holds off late Fairleigh Dickinson run (Feb 16, 2017)

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) Quincy McKnight scored 26 points, including hitting 12 of 13 at the free-throw line, and Sacred Heart earned a season sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson with a 91-81 win on Thursday night.

Sean Hoehn made four 3-pointers and finished with 17 points while Joseph Lopez added 11 for Sacred Heart (13-15, 8-7), which has won five straight. The Pioneers shot 51 percent from the field and hit 31 total free throws.

Fairleigh Dickinson (11-15, 9-6) scored six straight to trim a 10-point deficit to four (81-77) with 3:21 to go. However, Jose Lopez answered with a free throw for Sacred Heart, the first of five straight Pioneer points at the line, to push it back to an 86-77 advantage.

The Knights never got back within six, as Sacred Heart made five more free throws to close it out.

Earl Potts Jr. scored 21 points for Fairleigh Dickinson, which has lost four of five.
