Jake Thomas scored 21 points and South Dakota defeated Great West Conference top seed Utah Valley 72-70 on Friday night in the tournament semifinals.
The Coyotes (18-14) set up a championship game meeting on Saturday with North Dakota, which beat Houston Baptist in Friday's first game.
Louie Krogman had 12 for South Dakota. Mitchell Bouie's only basket of the game came with 1:03 to play and broke a 69-69 tie. The game featured 17 lead changes.
Isiah Williams had 21 points to lead Utah Valley (19-11). Ben Aird had 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Wolverines.
