Chalmers Rogers' only points came on a layup with 3 seconds left to lift South Carolina-Upstate over East Tennessee State 60-59 on Sunday in the Atlantic-Sun opener for both teams.

The Spartans (2-6), who were winless against the Buccaneers in the teams previous six meetings, led 55-50 with 5:35 to play.

The Buccaneers (3-3) then went on a 9-3 run and took a 59-58 lead on Adam Sollazzo's free throw with 54 seconds to go. Sollazzo missed the second foul shot but came down with his own rebound. Mike Smith then missed a shot for ETSU which got another offensive rebound, by Tommy Hubbard, with 17 seconds on the clock.

However, Hubbard then turned the ball over setting up Rogers shot.
