Richardson helps Southern Mississippi win 101-96 in 2 OT

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) D'Angelo Richardson drilled a 3-pointer and made two free throws in the final minute of the second overtime to lift Southern Mississippi to a 101-96 win over NAIA Tougaloo in the Golden Eagles' season-opener on Friday night.

Richardson hit a 3-pointer with 34 seconds to play to put Southern Miss up 98-96 and he converted at the line at 10 seconds after a Bulldogs' turnover. After a Tougaloo miss, Cortez Edwards rebounded and made one of two free throws to close it out.

Richardson made two free throws with one second left in the first overtime to tie the game at 88. He finished with 14 points as seven Golden Hurricanes scored in double figures. Raheem Watts led the way with 15 points and Eddie Davis III and Edwards each had 14.

Andravious Smith made a layup for Tougaloo with 10 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 79 but missed a 3 at the buzzer following a Golden Hurricanes' turnover.

Christopher Wallace had 31 points for the Bullodgs (1-1), Andravious Smith had 18 and Denarius Odell and Jarmell Anderson added 16 each.
