Arsalan Kazemi scored 24 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to take his fifth double-double of the season as Rice pulled out a 75-73 win over Lamar on Saturday.
The Cardinals (4-4) led most of the way and were up by as many as 13 points late in the first half.
But the Owls (4-4) chipped away at the deficit in the second half on 63.6 percent shooting and outscored Lamar 48-36 in the period.
The teams traded the lead twice in the second half before the Owls took it for good on a free throw by Kazemi with 21 seconds left.

Cory Pflieger added 13 points for the Owls while Tamir Jackson scored 12.
Kendrick Harris led Lamar with 20 points while Charlie Harper added 16 and Anthony Miles had 10.
