Report: Mudiay agrees to richest overseas deal for high school player
Highly touted prep point guard Emmanuel Mudiay agreed to a one-year, $1.2 million contract with Guangdong of the China Basketball Association, Yahoo! Sports/FOX Sports 1 NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
Mudiay's deal is the richest overseas contract ever for a high school player. He initially committed to play at Southern Methodist University under coach Larry Brown, but eligibility concerns swayed him to accept an overseas deal.
Mudiay, 19, is a 6-foot-5 point guard prospect who could be a lottery pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. Mudiay has taken out an insurance policy in case he suffers an injury in China that could affect his future earnings, Wojnarowski reports.
Mudiay's move is not the first of its kind. Detroit Pistons point guard Brandon Jennings opted to earn a salary while playing overseas instead of spending one year in college. The decision didn't appear to hurt his draft stock as he was selected 10th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2009.
