Fanhouse.com reported that Terrelle Woody, a video and conditioning assistant on the South Florida staff, went with Gilchrist to Game 4 of the NBA Finals in Orlando on June 11, 2009. That would be an NCAA violation.
Gilchrist's parents supplied the St. Petersburg Times with documentation that showed Gilchrist flew home on the day in question. The newspaper also reported that Gilchrist's mother had a letter signed by a doctor in Maryland — where the player is from — saying he examined Gilchrist the next day.
"There's no truth to it. It's nothing but garbage," Augustus "Gil" Gilchrist told the newspaper on Thursday about the allegations regarding his son.
Fanhouse.com also reported that Woody, who is a close friend of Gilchrist's and was hired by South Florida coach Stan Heath on Aug. 26, 2008, shortly after Gilchrist transferred from Maryland, drove the player home to Maryland at the conclusion of the spring semester in 2009. The parents denied the claim to the St. Petersburg Times and also provided itineraries for that trip in addition to four others.
Woody has also been accused of watching "open gyms", coaching players and illegally working out South Florida players — which would be secondary NCAA violations.
Heath has denied those claims.
According to sources, the NCAA has not begun an inquiry — as stated in the online report. South Florida has said it will carefully review the issues raised and will address anything that warrants action.
Fanhouse.com also reported that point guard Anthony Crater, who transferred in the middle of last season from Ohio State, will be suspended for violating the school's substance-abuse policy due to a second failed drug test.
FOXSports.com has confirmed Crater flunked a second drug test back in the spring and won't be eligible until Big East play.
