Quinnipiac beats Mount St. Mary's (Md.) 78-59

Justin Rutty scored 22 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead Quinnipiac over Mount St. Mary's (Md.) 78-59 on Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the Northeast Conference tournament.

The Bobcats (22-8) outrebounded Mount St. Mary's 43-24, leading to an advantage in second-chance points, 26-5, and points in the paint, 48-20.

No. 2 Quinnipiac will host No. 3 Robert Morris in the tournament semifinals on Sunday - a rematch of the 2010 NEC tournament championship game.

The Mountaineers (11-21) led 19-13 with 11:04 left in the first half. Quinnipiac then outscored them 12-1 to go up 25-20 on Lance Brown's jumper with 7:19 left until halftime. The Bobcats led the rest of the way.

James Johnson had 13 points and Dave Johnson and Deontay Twyman added 10 each for Quinnipiac, which led by as many as 21, 76-55.

Shawn Atupem led Mount St. Mary's with 20 points.
