Purdue star Robbie Hummel left the Boilermakers' game in the first half against Minnesota with an apparent injury to his right knee and didn't return.

Hummel drove to the lane Wednesday night and his leg slipped as he tried to plant, then fell to the floor in pain as he clutched his knee. After being helped up, Hummel grimaced and couldn't put weight on the leg as he left the court.

Hummel was off to a strong start for the third-ranked Boilermakers, with 11 points, including three 3-pointers. He sat on the bench during the second half, with crutches at his side while Purdue rallied for a 59-58 victory.

Coach Matt Painter said he was unsure of the severity of the injury. Hummel will be evaluated again on Thursday.

``He means a lot to our team. He's a good player. I always say he pieces everything together on both ends for us. He makes a lot of players better,'' Painter said.
