Portley scores 25 as St. Peter's defeats Quinnipiac 68-52

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) Antwon Portley scored 25 points including four free throws at the end as Saint Peter's ran out the clock on a 15-0 pace to defeat Quinnipiac 68-52 on Monday night.

Quinnipiac had closed to 53-52 with 3:36 left to play before the Peacocks erupted. Quadir Welton started things rolling with four free throws wrapped around a Chazz Patterson 3-pointer. Elijah Boone scored a one-handed layup, and Portley and Cameron Jones closed it out with six free throws. Patterson added 11 points and Welton 10.

Portley, a 6-foot-4 freshman from Texas, shot 7-for-15 from the floor, was a perfect 8-for-8 at the line, and hit three 3-pointers for Saint Peters (9-13, 7-6 Mid Atlantic Athletic Conference).

Chaise Daniels scored 12 points, Giovanni McLean 11 and Daniel Harris 10 for Quinnipiac (8-14, 5-8), which shot 18 of 62 from the floor for 29 percent and committed 16 turnovers.
