Chris Harriel scored 23 points and Chehales Tapscott had a double-double as Portland State held off Lamar 102-98 Saturday at the SMU Invitational.

Tapscott picked up 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Vikings (2-1). Melvin Jones added 18 points, Charles Odum 13 and Nate Lozeau 12.

Lamar's Kendrick Harris took game honors with 25 points. Charlie Harper added 19 for the Cardinals (2-1), Vincenzo Nelson 13 and Anthony Miles 11.

Portland State held a shooting advantage of 54.8 percent (34 of 62) to 46.8 percent (36 of 77). Both teams made six 3-pointers, but Portland State missed just six while Lamar missed 17.

Nelson scored with 1:23 left to pull Lamar within 96-95, but the Vikings sank four free throws to go up 100-95. Harris drilled a 3-pointer for the Cardinals to make it 100-98 with seven seconds left before Jones made two free throws to ice it.
