Persons leads Ball State past Eastern Kentucky in OT, 91-86
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) Tayler Persons scored in the final minute of overtime to give Ball State the lead and the Cardinals held off Eastern Kentucky from the line to take a 91-86 victory Saturday.
Dillon Avare hit a 3-pointer with 1:16 left in regulation to tie the game at 78-78 and Persons missed two free throws with three seconds left to force overtime.
Nick Mayo gave the Colonels (6-5) the lead, 85-84, with his jumper with 2:25 left in the extra period. Persons hit the first of two from the line to tie the game with 1:31 left.
Sean Sellers finished with 32 points for Ball State and Persons added another 21 and also notched nine assists. Trey Moses added 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
Asante Gist scored 19 points, hitting 5 of 11 from beyond the arc, to lead five double-figure scorers for Eastern Kentucky (6-5).
