Pepperdine knocks off Loyola Marymount 69-56

LOS ANGELES (AP) Jett Raines scored 17 points as Pepperdine opened West Coast Conference play with a 69-56 victory over rival Loyola Marymount on Monday night.

Amadi Udenyi made 3 of 4 from long range for 11 points as Pepperdine (8-4, 1-0) nailed 8 of 14 3s and made 27 of 54 from the floor (50 percent). Loyola Marymount missed all six 3-point attempts, hitting 21 of 52 field goals (40.4 percent).

Pepperdine jumped out to an early lead and never trailed, leading 32-25 at the break. The Waves, who consistently drove inside, started the second half with a three straight layups. Raines nailed a 3-point jumper and Shawn Olden dunked for an 11-0 run that led to a 57-38 lead midway through the second half. Loyola Marymount could never close the gap.

Evan Payne had 15 and Patson Siame and Marin Mornar had 11 apiece for the Lions (4-9, 0-1).
