Ben Finney scored 15 points and Kent Bazemore added 14 to lead Old Dominion over Saint Peter's 59-52 on Friday in the first round of the Paradise Jam.
The Monarchs (2-1) will play Sunday against Clemson in the second round. The Peacocks (0-2) will play Long Beach State on Saturday.
Bazemore, who also had two assists, two blocked shots and two steals, scored five points during a 10-0 run that gave Old Dominion a 35-27 lead with 14:15 remaining.
The Peacocks rallied to tie it 40-40 with 6:56 left. Ryan Bacon and Nick Leon scored six points apiece during the 13-5 run.
The Monarchs then took control with a 7-0 run in the next 1:06 on a jumper by Keyon Carter, a layup by Finney and a 3-pointer by Trent Iliades for a 47-40 lead.
Fran Kassell led all rebounders with 12 as the Monarchs dominated the boards 37-26.
Bacon led Saint Peter's with 16 points.
