Old Dominion respects Butler, but concedes nothing
Old Dominion has firsthand experience of Butler's success in the NCAA tournament.
When Butler reached the round of 16 in 2007, its first victim was ODU. Monarchs coach Blaine Taylor had his team watch film of that game on the bus ride to Washington, where Old Dominion and Butler will begin tournament play Thursday in the Southeast Regional.
Butler made it all the way to the NCAA championship game last year, and Old Dominion has designs of making a similar run this season.
Senior Frank Hassell says the Monarchs plan to build on their first-round win over Notre Dame last year.
Ninth-seed Old Dominion (27-6) enters as Colonial Athletic Association champions. Butler (23-9), the Horizon League winners, is the eighth seed.
Both teams have won nine straight.
