Dimitri Batten scored 18 points and Chris Cooper had his fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead Old Dominion past East Carolina 63-58 on Tuesday night.

The Monarchs (4-3) trailed 42-35 when they started a 15-2 run to break the game open with 7:51 to play.

The Pirates (4-2) chipped away, getting within two points on three occasions, the last time at 59-57 with 48 seconds left.

After two Old Dominion timeouts, Marquel De Lancey hit a layup and Batten capped the scoring with two foul shots with 9 seconds to go.

Reserve Shamarr Bowden paced East Carolina with 14 points. He made 4 of 5 3-pointers as the Pirates went 8 of 27 from beyond the arc.

The Monarchs, who won their fourth straight in the series, outshot East Carolina 42.3 percent (22 of 52) to 33.3 percent (19 of 57).
