Trailing 52-33 early in the second half, Northwestern State rallied behind William Mosley to overcome Nicholls State 80-79 Wednesday night in Southland Conference action.

The Demons (9-7, 2-0) overcame a 19-point deficit by outscoring Nicholls State 49-34 in the second half.

The Colonels (4-11, 0-3) got 16 points from Shane Rillieux and four other players scored in double figures. Trevon Lewis, Jeremy Smith and Sterling Bailey each scored 14 points while Bryan Hammond had 13.

Mosley scored 18 points and had 10 rebounds and six blocks. A 16-2 run early in the second half got Northwestern State within 57-55.

A 3-point basket by James Hurlbin with 4:05 left put Northwestern State ahead for good. It was the only trey Northwestern State hit in 11 attempts. The Demons hit 29 of 37 free throws, 7 of 8 in the final 1:52. Gary Stewart's pair with 9.5 seconds left clinched it.
