Will Pratt scored 15 points and Northwestern State held on to beat Sam Houston State 64-63 Wednesday night.
Devon Baker's layup with 2:43 remaining gave the Demons (16-12, 8-5 Southland) a 62-61 lead. That was the last field goal for either team. Shamir Davis, who had 11 points, made two free throws for Northwestern State and Gilberto Clavell hit two for Sam Houston State. The Bearkats missed five field-goal tries in the final two minutes.
Gilberto Clavell led Sam Houston State (14-12, 7-6) with 21 points. Josten Crow added 18 points and Antuan Bootle had a game-high 12 rebounds for the Bearkats, who led 25-15 with 6 minutes left in the first half but that edge was down to 31-28 at intermission.
