Northern Kentucky pulls away late, beats Morehead St. 84-79

MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) Drew McDonald had 32 points and 11 rebounds as Northern Kentucky pulled away in the final minute to beat Morehead State 84-79 on Wednesday night.

McDonald's layup gave Northern Kentucky a 79-78 with 1:00 remaining. DeJuan Marrero missed a layup on the Eagles' ensuing possession, and McDonald grabbed the rebound. Lavone Holland made 3 of 4 from the line to stretch the Norse's lead to 82-79 with eight seconds to play. Carson Williams then forced a turnover and made a pair of free throws to end it.

Jalen Tate scored 13 points for Northern Kentucky (4-3). Holland and Cole Murray added 12 points apiece.

Malik Maitland scored 18 points and had seven assists to lead Morehead State (2-4), which made 9 of 14 3-pointers. Miguel Dicent chipped in 16 points and made three 3-point shots.
