No. 7 W.Va. tops Charleston in exhibition
Freshman Deniz Kilicli scored 18 points to lead No. 7 West Virginia to an 81-48 exhibition win over the University of Charleston on Saturday night.
West Virginia led 38-22 at halftime and shot 54 percent (30 of 56) from the floor for the game.
Kevin Jones added 14 points, Da'Sean Butler scored 11 and Jonnie West had 10 for the Mountaineers.
Kilicli, who is sitting out the first 20 games of the regular season after the NCAA determined he violated an amateurism rule, made 8 of 12 field goals.
Brandon Ross scored 14 points for Charleston, a Division II school which was limited to 39 percent shooting (19 of 49).
West Virginia scheduled the exhibition because it had a 10-day layoff between previously scheduled games. WVU had already reached its maximum of nonconference games scheduled.
