Pittsburgh freshman forward Talib Zanna will miss between three and six weeks after breaking his right thumb.

The school announced the injury Thursday night before the fourth-ranked Panthers (24-3, 12-2 Big East) played host to West Virginia (17-9, 8-6). Zanna will have surgery on Friday.

It's unclear how Zanna was hurt, though it did not happen in practice. Coach Jamie Dixon will update the injury following the game.

Zanna is averaging 3.7 points and 3.4 rebounds in 27 games this season, including 13 starts. He appeared in one game last year and was awarded a medical hardship after hurting his right shoulder.
