Troy Gillenwater scored 30 points and New Mexico State beat Louisiana-Lafayette 92-76 in the season opener for both teams Friday night.
The Aggies made 12 of 25 attempts from beyond the arc. Gillenwater made 5 of 9 on 3-point attempts and Hernst Laroche, who scored 21 points, connected on all four of his 3-point attempts. Rahman Hamidu added 18 points for the Aggies.
Leading 42-34 at halftime, the Aggies opened the second half with four 3-pointers in the first 10 minutes and built a 67-51 lead and were never threatened the rest of the way.
Travis Bureau scored 21 points to lead the Ragin' Cajuns, which got 24 points off 15 Aggie turnovers. Josh Brown and David Perez each added 16 points for the Ragin' Cajuns.
