New Hampshire wins third straight game, 72-56

NEW YORK (AP) Jaleen Smith scored 16 points and Tanner Leissner added 13 points and eight rebounds as New Hampshire won its third straight game, beating LIU Brooklyn 72-56 on Wednesday night.

UNH made just 41.7 percent of its shots, but hit 12 of 26 from 3-point range (46.2 percent). The Wildcats (4-2) had a 40-28 lead at halftime after finishing on a 19-8 run, getting 15 points off turnovers.

A basket by Iverson Fleming got the Blackbirds (0-5) within nine points with 7:49 left, but a 3-pointer by Matt Miller and a basket by Ronnel Jordan put the Wildcats up by 14 and the lead would never dip under double figures from there. Martin Hermannsson had 12 points for the Blackbirds, who shot 30.2 percent. Elvar Fridriksson added 11 and Joel Hernandez 10. Nura Zanna grabbed 12 rebounds.

UNH defeated the Blackbirds (0-5) for the first time in five meetings.
