NC Central tops Norfolk St 68-45; advances in MEAC
NORFOLK, Va. (AP) Jeremy Ingram and Jordan Parks scored 14 points apiece as top-seeded North Carolina Central eliminated No. 4 seed Norfolk State 68-45 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference semifinal on Friday.
The Eagles face Morgan State (15-15) in the final, which eliminated Coppin State 79-64 in the other semifinal on Friday.
N.C. Central (27-5) led by two with 9:13 left in the first half, then went on a 14-7 run - including a 3-pointer by Ingram - en route to a 32-24 lead at the break.
An 11-0 run at the start of the second half by the Eagles, fueled by Parks' layup and a 3-pointer by Karamo Jawara, propelled N.C. Central's lead to 43-24 and it cruised from there, never trailing by fewer than 16 the rest of the way.
N.C. Central held a huge advantage at the free-throw line, making 20 of 24, compared with 9 of 14 for Norfolk State. Emanuel Chapman had 13 points and Jawara finished with 11.
Pendarvis Williams led Norfolk State (19-14) with 12 points.
