Navy rallies to beat Army 56-52 to advance

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) Zach Fong scored the game-winning 3-pointer with 56 seconds left and Navy rallied to beat Army 56-52 on Tuesday in the Patriot League tournament, advancing to the quarterfinal game against second-seeded Colgate on Thursday in Hamilton, N.Y.

Will Kelly scored 13 points and blocked eight shots, Tilman Dunbar scored 11 points and had four assists and Worth Smith had 11 rebounds for the No. 7 seeded Midshipman (13-18).

There were eight lead changes and five ties before Army took a 19-18 lead on a jumper by Kyle Wilson, then used a 9-6 run to lead 26-24 at halftime. Tanner Plomb scored 10 points for the Black Knights in the half and the Midshipmen missed all four shots from beyond the arc.

Navy opened the second half with a 15-6 run and led 39-32 after Shawn Anderson's back-to-back layups, but Army retook the lead 44-43 with a layup by Dylan Cox with 4:58 left. The lead flip-flopped until Fong hit his 3 for a 53-50 Navy lead, sparking an 8-2 run.

Plomb scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Army (15-16), Wilson had 13 and Dylan Cox 11.
