Lamar Trice scored a career-high 21 points to lead Mount St. Mary's (Md.) to a 66-52 win over Sacred Heart in their Northeast Conference opener Thursday night.

Leading 34-32 early in the second half, the Mountaineers used a 7-0 run to take a 41-32 advantage with 14:11 left and led by at least four points the rest of the way.

Mount St. Mary's (3-4) shot 20 of 42 from the floor (47.6 percent) and 21 of 27 (77.8 percent) at the free-throw line while holding the Pioneers to 33.3 percent shooting (18 of 54) and forcing 19 turnovers.

Trice was 7 of 16 from the field, 4 of 9 from 3-point range. Freshman Josh Castellanos added a career-high 11 points, hitting 9 of 9 free throws.

The Mountaineers' leading scorer, Shawn Atupem, was limited to 14 minutes due to foul trouble and had 10 points.

Shane Gibson scored 21 to lead Sacred Heart (1-5) and Jerrell Thompson had 14.
