Morse leads Youngstown State over Akron 90-82

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) Cameron Morse had 17 of his 27 points in the second half and sparked a late run to help Youngstown State beat Akron 90-82 in the season opener for both teams on Saturday night.

Youngstown State had a late 6-0 burst when Morse scored back-to-back on drives and Rahim Williams flushed an alley oop dunk to make it 84-77 with 59 seconds left.

The Penguins snapped a six-game losing streak to the Zips in their first win over Akron since 1994. Matt Donlan added 20 points and Santiago scored 15.

Isaiah Johnson led the Zips with 17 points. Akron led 41-30 late in the first half before Youngstown State surged to overtake them at 47-45 early in the second and led by as many as eight. Akron pulled to within 78-77 but got no closer.

Jimond Ivey added 14 points, Kwan Cheatham, Jr. scored 13, Tavian Dunn-Martin 12 and Noah Robotham 10.
