JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) Drew Kelly scored 19 points as Morehead State held off Jacksonville State 69-67 on Thursday.
Undra Mitchem's layup for Jacksonville State (10-17, 4-8 Ohio Valley) with 12 seconds remaining cut its deficit to 69-67. But Grant White missed a layup, then Mitchem missed a pair of free throws with 1 second left as Morehead State barely hung on.
Morehead State (17-9, 8-3) jumped out to a 13-4 lead through almost 9 minutes of the first half as JSU started out 2-for-11 shooting. But the Gamecocks raced back to tie at 20 and led by two, 27-25, at the break.
The game was tied at 51 with 8:16 left when Luka Pajkovic drilled a trey that sent Morehead State on a 9-3 spurt to go up 60-54.
Angelo Warner added 16 points for Morehead State, which shot 44 percent as a team.
Jacksonville State was led by Mitchem's 13 points.
