Moore's 22 points sparks Utah State past UC Irvine, 72-56

IRVINE, Calif. (AP) Jalen Moore scored 22 points and Utah State rode a big first half to a 72-56 win over UC Irvine in the season opener Friday night.

The Aggies built a 40-24 advantage in the first half and stayed even with the Anteaters over the final 20 minutes.

Utah State shot 25 of 53 from the field (47.2 percent), hitting 7 of 19 from beyond the arc (36.8 percent).

The Anteaters struggled shooting from the field, hitting just 18 of 61 shots (29.5 percent), and connecting on just 8 of 29 shots from distance.

Moore hit 6 of 11 from the field and was 9 of 10 from the line in leading the Aggies. Koby McEwen added 11 points and Norbert Janicek and Shane Rector each added 10.

Eyassu Worku had 11 points off the bench to lead UC Irvine in his college debut. Ioannis Dimakopoulos added 10 points.
