Monmouth wins 24th game, tops Rider 79-58 to clinch top seed

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) Micah Seaborn scored 19 points and Monmouth won its school-record 24th game Friday night, rolling past Rider, 79-58 to clinch the top seed into the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament.

The Hawks can clinch their first Metro Atlantic regular season conference title with a win Sunday in their regular season finale with Niagara.

The school announced prior to tip-off that coach King Rice had been given a five-year contract extension.

In the first meeting with Rider, the Hawks needed a dramatic comeback to eke out a 79-78 win, erasing a 14-poinht deficit in the final four minutes. This time Monmouth (24-6, 16-3) built a 12-point lead by intermission and cruised home.

Zac Tillman came off the Hawks' bench to score 12 points, and Justin Robinson and Austin Tilghman each added 10 points.

Kahlil Thomas scored 16 points and Kealen Ives added 13 to help pace Rider (11-19, 7-12).
