Monmouth opens MAAC play with 57-50 win

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) Justin Robinson scored 12 points and Brice Kofane added 11 points as Monmouth opened its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule with a 57-50 victory over Marist on Thursday night.

The Hawks (3-4, 1-0) hit 24 of 47 shots for 51.1 percent in ending a three-game losing streak. They had a 30-23 rebounding edge. They also had 14 steals that led to 21 Marist turnovers, but the Hawks had 20 turnovers themselves.

The Red Foxes (1-6, 0-1) hit 19 of 44 shots for 43.2 percent, were led by 14 points from Phillip Lawrence.

Monmouth had a one-point lead at the half. Neither team scored in the second half until the Hawks' Zac Tillman scored at the 17:51 mark. Chris Brady's dunk with 11:11 left gave Monmouth the lead for good. An 11-5 run put Monmouth up nine points with 56 seconds left.
