Monmouth (NJ) takes control early, beats Niagara 69-58

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) Justin Robinson scored 16 points and Monmouth (N.J.) led by 20 points at halftime on the way to a 69-58 win over Niagara on Friday.

Collin Stewart added 12 points and Max DiLeo 11 for the Hawks (11-9, 7-2 Metro Atlantic).

Emile Blackman had 18 points and Ramone Snowden 17 for the Purple Eagles (3-15, 2-7), who shot just 32 percent.

The game had 53 fouls and the teams combined for 69 free throws, making 48. They also had a combined 30 turnovers. Monmouth shot 47.4 percent, including 8 of 15 from 3-point range.

Monmouth held the Purple Eagles to four free throws over the final six minutes of the first half to lead 40-20 at the half. Niagara got within 14 midway through the second half but another three-minute drought sealed the game, although a 3-pointer by Ramone Snowden with 1:12 left cut the lead to nine.
