Milwaukee holds off UMKC 65-56

MILWAUKEE (AP) Steve McWhorter scored 17 points and Milwaukee held off UMKC 65-56 on Wednesday.

Milwaukee led by 12 with 1:29 left in the first half but a six-point run by UMKC cut its deficit to 28-22 at intermission. The lead was four with 13:42 in the game, but Milwaukee used an 11-2 run, fueled by McWhorter's 3-pointer and pair of free throws, to take a 16-point lead with 8:47 left.

The Kangaroos chipped the lead down to four with 2:57 left, but Milwaukee scored seven of the next eight points and held on down the stretch.

McWhorter was 6 of 10 from the floor and grabbed nine rebounds. Matt Tiby had 11 points and 11 boards and Cody Wichmann added 11 points.

Martez Harrison led UMKC with 14 points and Shayok Shayok had 11 points and seven rebounds.
