Matthew Goldsmith named coach at College of New Jersey

EWING TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) The College of New Jersey has named Matthew Goldsmith as its basketball coach.

Dr. Sharon Beverly, assistant vice president for student affairs and executive director of athletics and recreation, announced the hiring on Tuesday. He arrives from Amherst College, where he was an assistant coach for three seasons and a member of its national championship team in 2007.

Goldsmith is a New Jersey native, who played at Delbarton High School.

Goldsmith has spent time as a volunteer assistant coach for USA Basketball over the past two summers. He played professionally in Germany in 2008-09, before returning to serve as an assistant to alumni & development at Delbarton, where he served as assistant men's varsity basketball coach before returning to Amherst.
