Maryland-Eastern Shore beats UMBC, 65-52

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (AP) Devon Walker scored 16 points, including 4-of-9 from 3-point range, to lead Maryland-Eastern Shore to a 65-52 win over Maryland-Baltimore County on Tuesday night.

Devin Martin and Mike Myers each finished with 15 points for the Hawks (3-6), with Myers adding eight rebounds and Martin adding four assists. As a team Maryland-Eastern Shore dominated both statistical categories, winning the rebounding battle 41-25 while finishing with a 20-9 lead in assists.

Wayne Sparrow led UMBC with 12 points, and Cody Joyce added 10 points for the Retrievers (0-6). UMBC struggled much of the night from the field, hitting just 38 percent of its shots and 22 percent from 3-point range.

Maryland-Eastern Shore used an 18-2 first half run to take a commanding 39-16 lead at halftime. UMBC battled back in the second half, outscoring the Hawks by 10, but it wasn't enough.
