Damier Pitts scored 19 of his 21 points in the second half as Marshall held off North Carolina-Wilmington on Tuesday night to start a season 4-0 for the first time since 1999.
DeAndre Kane added 19 for the Thundering Herd (4-0).
The Seahawks (0-3) had the early momentum, jumping out to a 12-3 lead. Marshall still trailed 16-15 with 7:48 to go in the first half, then surged to a 36-25 halftime lead.
The Thundering Herd built a 16-point cushion that UNC Wilmington whittled down to four with 11:47 to play. The Seahawks also surged late, closing a 14-point deficit to four with 7 seconds left, thanks to two 3s by Tanner Milson.
Pitt scored 12 of Marshall's final 15 points, including 4 of 6 free throws, as the Thundering Herd went 5 of 8 from the line in the final 1:35.
Keith Rendleman led the Seahawks with 15 points.
