Erik Etherly had a career-high 27 points with 10 rebounds to lead Loyola (Md.) past Maryland-Baltimore County 73-63 on Thursday night, giving Greyhounds coach Jimmy Patsos his 100th career win.

Patsos, who took over a team that was 1-27 in 2002-03, is in his eighth year at the helm of the Loyola program with a 99-115 record. Dylon Cormier added 20 points for the Greyhounds (2-1), making 15 of 17 free throws.

Loyola was 31 of 46 from the foul line, while the Retrievers had only 21 opportunities from the line, making just 10.

UMBC (0-3), which has lost nine straight going back to last season, was led by Brian Neller with 27 points and Will Wise with 15.

Loyola led 35-27 at halftime and padded the lead to 51-34 with 11:08 to go.

UMBC got within seven, at 61-54, with 2:44 left, but could get no closer.
