Louisville Basketball: Cardinals snag third top-100 recruit for 2017
Forward Jordan Nwora is joining Darius Perry and Malik Williams in Louisville basketball’s class of 2017.
The looming NCAA notice of allegations isn’t affecting Rick Pitino and the Louisville Cardinals in terms of recruiting.
The program added a third player to their class of 2017 on Tuesday, as four-star forward Jordan Nwora committed to the Cardinals over a plethora of other Power Five schools. Nwora was offered by California, Marquette, North Carolina State, Texas Tech, Utah and USC, among others.

Nwora, a 6’8″, 220 pound Vermont Academy prospect, is currently 91st in ESPN’s top 100 and is the 15th best power forward in the class of 2017. The Buffalo, NY native is also the 5th best player in the state of New York.
On the Nike EYBL Circuit this summer, Nwora was one of the top players on a loaded New York Rens team. He averaged 14.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per game, while shooting 45 percent from the field and nearly 40 percent from beyond the arc.
Louisville is getting a versatile combo forward who can score from all three levels. Nwora is an elite shooter who has the ability to put the ball in the basket in bunches. He has terrific confidence in his scoring capabilities as he makes tough shots and creates for himself.
Nwora doesn’t have great size and strength, which could limit his minutes at the four-position, and doesn’t have dynamic speed to blow by defenders on the wing. His lack of a true position could be an issue on the defensive end, but offensively, his potent scoring ability will fit in at any spot on the floor.
Meanwhile, Louisville adds Nwora to a class that already consists of four-star ESPN top 100 forward Malik Williams and four-star ESPN top 100 point guard Darius Perry. Williams broke onto the recruiting scene this summer and was one of Louisville’s top priorities, while Perry will likely come off the bench in 2017-18 before taking over for now-junior guard Quentin Snider in 2018-19.
Louisville isn’t known for adding pure scorers and shooters like Nwora, however, his presence will create a mismatch on a nightly basis. Nwora’s shooting touch will stretch the floor, especially when he’s at the four, creating easy opportunities for the Cardinals’ guards and wing players.
But most importantly, in order for the Cardinals to keep up with the Duke’s and North Carolina’s of the world, they need to be even better offensively. Their defense is already elite on a yearly basis, but maybe landing an advanced scorer like Nwora could create a unique dimension for the Cards.
