Louisiana-Monroe cruises over McMurry 88-43 in opener

MONROE, La. (AP) Majok Deng and DeMondre Harvey scored 14 points each and Louisiana-Monroe beat McMurry 88-43 on Friday.

The 45-point margin of victory was the largest for the Warhawks in a season opener in school history.

Prince Cooper added 12 points and Justin Roberson 11 as ULM shot 62.3 percent, including 5 of 10 from 3-point range. The Warhawks dominated the boards 41-23.

ULM never trailed, scoring the game's first 17 points, including a run of seven straight by Roberson. By the time Calvin McGee hit a 3-pointer for McMurray, ULM was ahead 30-5 with 4:45 left in the first half, which ended 43-12.

The previous largest margin of victory by ULM in a season opener was 30 points set twice, in the 1960-61 and 2004-05 seasons.

Four starters are back for ULM, which won 24 games last season.

LaRandall Scroggins led Division III McMurry with 10 points.
