Louisiana-Monroe 54, FIU 50
Fred Brown scored 16 points, including three 3-pointers and three foul shots in the waning seconds, as Louisiana-Monroe held off Florida International 54-50 on Saturday night in a Sun Belt Conference game.
The Warhawks (2-15, 1-3), who got no points from their bench, led 31-21 at halftime and by as much as 13 points in the second half before FIU (4-11, 1-2) mounted a comeback. The Golden Panthers pulled within three points with less than 2 minutes left.
Dominique Ferguson, who scored 12 points, dunked with 8 seconds left to bring FIU within 51-50. Brown made just one of two foul shots, but FIU's Deric Hill committed a turnover. Brown then sank two free throws with 2 seconds remaining to clinch the win.
Phil Taylor led FIU with 19 points, including four treys. But the Golden Panthers managed just one more 3-pointer. Louisiana-Monroe's nine 3-pointers proved decisive.
