Martiz Washington had 20 points and six assists and Longwood overcame a 12-point first-half deficit to defeat William & Mary 83-81 on Wednesday night.

Washington was 5 of 9 from beyond the arc and the Lancers hit 11 of 24 3-pointers to beat the Tribe for the first time in four tries since 2004.

Trailing 40-28 with 1:56 left in the first half, Longwood (5-11) closed to 42-36 at the break.

The Lancers took a brief lead at 53-52 on a Durann Neil 3-pointer with 14:52 left, but the Tribe (4-8) quickly regained the advantage.

With the score tied at 70, Longwood went on a 9-2 run. William & Mary got within a point on a Brandon Britt 3-pointer with 1 second left, then Jeremiah Bowman sealed the win with a free throw.

Bowman finished with 18 points, Antwan Carter had 17 and Aaron Mitchell 12 for the Lancers.

Quinn McDowell scored a career-high 30 for the Tribe.
