Tristan Carey scored a career-high 30 points to lead Longwood to its highest point total of the season in a 110-89 win over Virginia Military Institute on Monday night.

Carey was 6 of 12 from 3-point range and Longwood, which attempted 40 long-range shots, made a school-record 20.

Martiz Washington scored 20 points, Jeremiah Bowman added 19 and David Robinson 11 for Longwood. Jan van der Kooij chipped in 12 points and 11 rebounds and Antwan Carter had his third double-double of the season with 10 points and 14 rebounds for the Lancers.

Longwood is 4-6 for its finest start since beginning Division I play in 2004-05.

The Lancers outrebounded VMI 45-34, leading to 20 second-chance points.

Jordan Weethee led the Keydets with 19 points. Keith Gabriel added 15, Quinton Upshur 11 and Ron Burks 10 for VMI, which snapped a two-game winning streak.
