LIU picks Perri to replace Ferry
LIU Brooklyn has promoted assistant Jack Perri to replace Jim Ferry as head men's basketball coach.
Ferry, who led the Blackbirds to the NCAA tournament the past two seasons, left Tuesday for Duquesne.
Perri was on the staff at LIU for seven seasons, the last five as associate head coach.
The Blackbirds won the Northeast Conference regular-season and tournament titles the past two seasons. They went 25-9 this season, 16-2 in the conference, and lost to North Carolina in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
The Blackbirds ranked second in the country in scoring (81.4) and compiled the nation's second-longest active home winning streak (27 games). Julian Boyd, the NEC Player of the Year, and all-conference selections Jamal Olasewere and Jason Brickman return next season.
Perri was head coach at Division III Rhode Island College in 2004-05, finishing with a 20-9 record.
