Kent State holds on to beat Cleveland State 66-62

CLEVELAND (AP) Khaliq Spicer scored 22 points with eight rebounds as Kent State held on to beat Cleveland State on Saturday.

Spicer was 9 of 11 from the field overall for the Golden Flashes (4-2). Jimmy Hall had 14 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Kellon Thomas added seven points.

Kent State trailed through much of the first period but a Spicer layup and a Hall jumper in the final minute helped lift the Golden Flashes to a 28-27 lead at halftime.

Cleveland State closed to within three, 58-55, with 4:07 left to play but Spicer, Hall and Chris Ortiz responded in the paint with a final 6-4 surge to extend the Kent State lead to 64-59 with 1:51 remaining.

Andre Yates and Rob Edwards had 14 points apiece for the Vikings (2-6). Vinny Zollo posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
