Kansas Recruiting Roundup: October 12
After all the recruiting bustle that is Late Night in the Phog, the news has slowed some. The KU basketball coaching staff is still busy recruiting 2017 targets.
Gak cuts list
The biggest news of the week has been on the Deng Gak front. Today, the 6’10” big man cut his list to three schools. Gak cut the long-time favorite, Duke, as well as Indiana. His final three are Florida, Kansas, and Miami. Gak officially visited Miami on the weekend of Sepetmber 23rd, and will visit Florida this coming weekend. He will visit Kansas the weekend of October 21st. With Duke out of the picture, Kansas is seen by many analysts as the favorite.
Kansas is recruiting the big man as a multi-year contributor. Gak has a high ceiling, maybe one of the highest in the 2017 class for a big man. He’s a very good athlete, and has the ability to play above the rim. His frame can fill out some, as he’s only about 200 pounds. He can run the floor very well. He will take a lot of time to develop. Gak is extremely raw on both ends of the floor. On offense, he struggles to finish through traffic and does not possess a good handle. He’s not a great rim protector yet, either, but will block some shots just due to his length.
Movement on wing targets?
On the wing front, there has been some movement for Kansas targets. Former Kansas target Brandon Randolph committed to Arizona, and wing Lonnie Walker may follow after his visit this weekend. This may take Arizona out of the running for Kansas target Troy Brown. Oregon is another school to watch for the talented wing’s services. Yesterday, Oregon landed combo guard Victor Bailey after he visited Eugene last weekend. On Friday, four-star wing Abu Kigab is also expected to commit to Dana Altman and the Ducks. Oregon will remain in the running for Brown, as they expect significant departures along the perimeter. Kansas also remains in play, especially after losing out to Wake Forest for wing Chaundee Brown.
Sexton update
Last weekend, guard target Collin Sexton competed at the USA Basketball Junior Workout. Based on a report from 247 Sports Director of Basketball Scouting Jerry Meyer, Sexton favors Alabama and Kansas. From most information, Kansas has made up ground with Sexton, and might have pulled even with the Crimson Tide. Sexton will sign in November.
