Jones with 23 points, Penn beats CCSU 77-61

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Sam Jones scored 15 of his 23 points in the second half to help Pennsylvania pull away and beat Central Connecticut State 77-61 on Sunday.

Jones made five 3-pointers and was 8 of 9 from the line. Antonio Woods scored 11 points, and Darien Nelson-Henry had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Penn (2-0).

Brandon Peel scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Central Connecticut State (0-2). Khalen Cumberlander added 16 points with eight rebounds and four assists.

The teams traded two-point leads for most of the first half, and three minutes into the second. Nelson-Henry made a layup, and Jones made consecutive 3-pointers to spark a 15-4 run to make it 49-40 with 14 minutes left.

Penn extended the lead with a Foreman 3-pointer, Nelson-Henry layup, 4 points from Jones, and led by double digits the rest of the way.
