Jackson State handles Alcorn State 71-61

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) Brandon West had 18 points with 10 rebounds and Julysses Nobles added 16 points and six assists as Jackson State defeated Alcorn State 71-61 Saturday night.

Jackson State (8-14, 4-6 Southwestern Athletic Conference) outrebounded the Braves 49-30 and had a 14-6 advantage in second-chance points. Treshawn Bolden hauled in 11 rebounds and Javeres Brent had nine with 12 points.

Alcorn State (8-14, 5-5) went 4 of 17 from beyond the arc and 21 of 42 from the foul line. Marquis Vance scored 17 points and LeAntwan Luckett had 13.

The Tigers were nursing a three-point lead, but closed the first half on a 15-3 run, with Brent and Nobles each sinking a 3-pointer to push toward a 36-21 halftime advantage.

Alcorn State pulled within five in the second half with 7:34 remaining, but Jackson State countered by hitting 13 of their final 18 free throws to seal the win.
