David Carson scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead IPFW to an 82-74 victory over Western Illinois on Saturday night. Three other Mastodons (10-18, 7-10 Summit League) scored in the double digits. Jakari Johnson came off the bench and had 17 points and six rebounds, Nick Daniels added 13 points and Ben Botts, who was 6-of-6 from free throw line chipped in 11 points. Western Illinois (10-17, 5-11) led 7-6 with 15:28 to go in the first half on a layup by David DuBois. But after a pair of layups by Johnson and Carson, the Mastodons never trailed again. The Mastodons led 37-30 at the half. The Leathernecks came within two points of IPFW with 11:27 remaining on a 3-pointer by Ceola Clark. Western Illinois had the two highest scorers of the game. Clark had 27 points and David DuBois added 24 points. David Nurse had a game-high six assists for the Leathernecks.
