This season, Jones has played in one game, against Seton Hall, and is when he suffered the wrist injury. The senior played two minutes and missed his only shot attempt. He also recorded one rebound, assist and committed a foul with one turnover, as well.
This is not Jones’ first major injury with the Hawkeyes, though. After transferring from junior college before the 2015-16 season, Jones suffered a season-ending knee injury with Iowa.
He appeared in six games for the Hawkeyes last season. Jones averaged 13 minutes per game and averaged 5.5 points, three rebounds and 0.3 blocks per game, while shooting 40 percent from the field and 30 percent from behind the arc.
It’s unclear about what this means about Jones’ future, but it didn’t look like he would be a significant role player off the bench early in the season. Fran McCaffery preferred Cordell Pemsl and Ahmad Wagner off the bench in favor of the 6-7 senior forward.
Still, no injury is good news, especially when it comes to a player who worked extremely hard to get back onto the court after missing all but six games a season ago.
The Hawkeyes play UT-Rio Grande Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
